Creative Writing Prompts: Photographs premium
I recently read an interesting article about the way that constantly taking photographs “diminishes our ability to recall our experiences, diverts our attention, and takes us out of the moment” but that “at the same time, new research suggests that cameras can also be used to enhance our memories of certain experiences”. I guess, for […]

One-Word Creative Prompts #2 premium
How does your mind make creative connections? I find mine often does so in seemingly randomly and unexpected ways. But only when I give it space do so, such as when I’m walking or on long car trips. This is a different aspect of the creative process from the need to stop procrastinating and “just […]

One-Word Creative Prompts #1 premium
Although I’ve developed a fairly consistent habit of turning up to the page each morning (or at least most of them), thanks to Julia Cameron’s idea of morning pages (three pages, longhand, daily), I still find myself procrastinating instead of just getting on with it. It got to the point where it was getting rather […]

Creative Writing Prompts: Joy premium
If conflict is an essential ingredient of a gripping narrative, is there a place for joy? What does it mean to experience joy anyway? How is it different to happiness? And how do we find it in the midst of life’s challenges? Whether you wish to reflect on your own life’s experiences or are developing […]

Creative Writing Prompts: Animals premium
This month’s writing prompts are inspired by the loss of my 16-year-old cat, Fergus, as well as a couple of competitions with an animal theme and the fact that our furry friends often offer comfort during dark times. 1. Warm Up: Five Words Include the following words in a scene: fur, forest, future, freedom, family. […]

Hi Adele, thanks for reading! Thanks for the Twelve Moons recommendation too. Your chain was very interesting too. The only one I had read was Looking for Alibrandi, but I would love to have seen Peach Season by Debra Oswald performed on stage. (If anyone else would like to see Adele's chain you can find it over on her blog: https://adeleboundinbooks.blog/2025/10/05/6-degrees-of-separation-2025-october-4/).

An interesting chain. I haven't read any of these books, but I have read another of Mary Oliver's collections, 'Twelve Moons', which I enjoyed quite a lot. (Adele Bound in Books)

Hi Davida, thanks for taking the time to check out my chain. I also really liked your chain (for anyone reading this comment thread, you can find Davida's 6 Degrees of Separation post here: https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2025/10/04/tcls-6degrees-of-separation-for-october-4-2025/). I'm particularly drawn to Two Wars and a Wedding by Lauren Willig, and I have a couple of fellow historical fiction readers, who might also be interested.
