One-Word Creative Prompts #2

How does your mind make creative connections?

I find mine often does so in seemingly randomly and unexpected ways. But only when I give it space do so, such as when I’m walking or on long car trips.

This is a different aspect of the creative process from the need to stop procrastinating and “just begin”, but it’s a necessary part. One that is hindered by being constantly plugged into social media and other “noise” around us.

The following one-word prompts are designed to encourage connections—in whatever random way your mind and/or body decides to do so. It could be between the words themselves, or to a half-forgotten memory, or even an idea for a new detail about a fictional character.

Whether you’re a writer, family historian or creative in some other artistic discipline, I hope these will prompt you to make connections as you give yourself space to dream and imagine.

Select one each day of the month, or choose five to link together—or make up your own rules!

I found that fascinating too - especially given the reasons for the connection were totally different.

There are so many fabulous writers in Australia (both fiction and non-fiction), so I love being able to share them with others who might be less familiar with them!
