Creative Writing Prompts: October premium
What prevents you from creating art, whether that be poetry, prose, painting or playing the piano (or something else that doesn’t start with the letter p)? In her book, We Need Your Art, Amie McNee identifies procrastination, perfectionism, jealousy, comparison and burnout as some blocks to creating art (and she discusses each of these in detail […]

Many of you will have heard of Julia Cameron and her book The Artist’s Way, which is essentially a twelve-week course to help recover your creativity. Although there is much more to the book, two of the key practices Cameron encourages is the idea of morning pages and artist dates. Morning pages are three hand-written pages […]

Creative Writing Prompts: August premium
“Making art is the ultimate human act. The impulse to create is instinctual, untaught, innate to us as a species,” says Amie McNee in the introduction to her book We need Your Art. Maybe you already have a project you’re working on (or struggling to work on), or you want to create something new but […]

Creative Writing Prompts: April premium
April is one of my favourite months of the year. In Australia, April represents a cooler change in the weather (hopefully!), as well as moments of pause and reflection for Anzac Day and Easter. I look forward to spending more time in my garden instead of hiding inside trying to escape the heat, as well […]

Creative Writing Prompts: February premium
For many people, February is the month of love. For me, it has a significance of a different kind, albeit still heart-related – because February is also International CHD Awareness Month, with 14 February being Sweetheart Day. I’ve put together a set of prompts that riff off all of this. While Valentine’s Day brings with […]

Creative Writing Prompts: January premium
I love words. I love reading them and I love writing them. But I’m also a great procrastinator. For me, the hardest part of writing is getting started. I find myriad ways to not turn up to the page. I wondered whether having a set of prompts that were simple but open to interpretation might […]

Hi Adele, thanks for reading! Thanks for the Twelve Moons recommendation too. Your chain was very interesting too. The only one I had read was Looking for Alibrandi, but I would love to have seen Peach Season by Debra Oswald performed on stage. (If anyone else would like to see Adele's chain you can find it over on her blog: https://adeleboundinbooks.blog/2025/10/05/6-degrees-of-separation-2025-october-4/).

An interesting chain. I haven't read any of these books, but I have read another of Mary Oliver's collections, 'Twelve Moons', which I enjoyed quite a lot. (Adele Bound in Books)

Hi Davida, thanks for taking the time to check out my chain. I also really liked your chain (for anyone reading this comment thread, you can find Davida's 6 Degrees of Separation post here: https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2025/10/04/tcls-6degrees-of-separation-for-october-4-2025/). I'm particularly drawn to Two Wars and a Wedding by Lauren Willig, and I have a couple of fellow historical fiction readers, who might also be interested.
