Welcome to Treefall Writing.
The title for this blog came partly from the centuries old philosophical question, made famous by Bruce Cockburn’s song in the late eighties:
If a tree falls in the forest does anybody hear?
There is also a term in forest ecology called the treefall gap. A treefall gap is an opening in the forest caused by the death of a large tree, creating space for other plants to flourish.
Much of what we see on the news or read online describes how badly we treat each other and the planet, glamorises the lives of criminals and makes heroes out of celebrities and sports stars, only to tear them down when they prove to be merely human after all.
But many ordinary people have extraordinary stories to tell. And just as new growth rises up in a forest’s treefall gap, my hope is that this blog will create space for new and diverse stories to flourish. Because these stories matter.
Perhaps one of them is yours.
Great concept…go you, Melinda!
